HELPFUL HINTS IN THE KITCHEN....

These are just some hints that may help you in the kitchen.....

1. Seeds and nuts, both shelled and unshelled, keep best and longest when stored in the freezer Nuts in the shell crack easily when frozen. Nuts and seeds can be used directly from the freezer.

2. Always chill juices and sodas before adding to beverage recipes.

3. Bananas that have darkened can be peeled and frozen in a container until it's time to bake bread or cake.

4. When baking bread , a small dish of water in the oven will help to keep the crust from getting too hard or brown.

5. When in doubt always sift flour before measuring.

6. If your biscuits are dry, it could be from too much handling or your oven temperature may not have been hot enough.

7. To make bread crumbs, toast the heels of bread and put in blender or food processor. Store in container .

8.The freshness of eggs can be tested by placing them in a bowl of cold water if they float do not use them.

9. Don't freeze spaghetti, Macaroni or noodle mixture. These tend to lose texture and become to soft when reheated.

10. Instant potatoes are a good thickener for stews.

11. To keep oil from splattering sprinkle a little salt or flour in the pan before frying.

12. Meat may slice more thinly if it is partially frozen.

13. Lemon juice rubbed on fish before cooking will enhance the flavor and help maintain a good color.

14. When frying meat sprinkle paprika over it. and it will turn golden brown.

15. To prevent tears when cutting onions soak in cold water for a few minutes.
